U.S. Will Leave UNESCO Over Anti-Israel Bias

Oct 14, 2017

The United States will leave UNESCO, the UN’s educational, scientific, and cultural body in 2018. The decision comes in light of what the White House calls anti-Israel bias in the organization. The agency accepted Palestine as a permanent member in 2011. More recently it designated the Jewish Tomb of the Patriarchs as an endangered Palestinian world heritage site. UNESCO has also disavowed Israelis sovereignty over Jerusalem. This won’t be the first time the U.S. pulls out of the organization. President Reagan withdrew from UNESCO in 1984 saying that the United States would not pay for policies that were hostile to American values. In 2002, the U.S. re-entered the UN organization. Israel supported the U.S. decision to withdraw calling it a “turning point” for UNESCO. “The organization’s absurd and shameful resolutions against Israel have consequences. Today is a new day at the UN, where there is price to pay for discrimination against Israel. The United States stands by Israel and is a true leader for change at the UN. The alliance between our two countries is stronger than ever.” The UNESCO’s director general called the U.S. decision “deeply regrettable.” The United States hopes to remain engaged with UNESCO but as a “non-member observer state.”

Iran Warns Trump

Oct 14, 2017

President Trump has been warned by Iranian officials not to officially designate “Iran’s hard-line Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.” Iran has threatened a “crushing” response if the president follows through on the designation. “If the news is correct about the stupidity of the American government in considering the Guards a terrorist group, then the Guards will consider the American army to be like Daesh all around the world particularly in the Middle East,” said Iranian General Jafari. A spokesman for the Iranian government said that the IRGC is an “anti-terrorist force.” Iran said that the IRGC aids “oppressed people across the world.” In 2016, the IRGC “captured and humiliated 10 U.S. Navy sailors after their two ships drifted into Iranian waters.” The Americans were released the following day. The Pentagon has warned that Iran is using the IRGC to infiltrate Latin America. Ever since President Trump became president, the Iranians have feared that he would use his power to label the IRGC as a terrorist organization.

Senator Cruz Warns Republicans

Oct 14, 2017

Senator Ted Cruz was out with a warning to his Republican colleagues. The Texas senator and former candidate for president told fellow Republicans that if they don’t follow through on their campaign promises to repeal Obamacare and enact tax cuts, the party could experience a bloodbath in 2018. Republicans campaigned for seven years on repealing Obamacare. They took many symbolic votes to overturn the unpopular law. But when voters gave Republicans control of the entire government, they backed away from overturning the legislation. Steve Bannon on Brietbart News announced this week that he’s going to make sure every Republican senator up for re-election with the exception of Senator Cruz will face a primary challenge. The promise infuriated many Republican lawmakers. Cruz said, “We have Republican control of every branch of government, and we’re not delivering. If senators don’t want to see those kind of challenges, there is an easy solution to that. Let’s do what we said we would do. Let’s deliver on tax cuts and repealing Obamacare.” He promised that Republicans would have a great year in 2018 if they just follow through on their campaign promises.

Gas PipeLines Approved By Regulators

Oct 14, 2017

Federal regulators approved two natural gas pipelines on the East Coast on Friday. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved the Mountain Valley and Atlantic Coast pipelines. The Mountain Valley Pipeline is expected to cost $3.5 billion and extend 300 miles. It has been met with severe local objections. Over the past couple of years, surveying companies have trespassed on private property and have been taken to court multiple times in a failed effort to halt the work. Activists in southwest Virginia have put up signs showing where the pipeline may go through their towns and lands. They are also worried that the pipeline will hurt the environment. Activists opposed to the pipeline argue that the terrain can’t support the pipeline. The limestone terrain is prone to caves and sinkholes. The Atlantic Coast Pipeline is expected to cost $5 billon and extend 600 miles through West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina. Advocates for the pipelines say that Americans will have lower energy costs and the construction will aid economic development.

Insurer Subsidies to End

Oct 14, 2017

Thursday night, President Trump announced plans to end Obamacare subsidies to insurers. The subsidies will cost the government $7 billion in 2017 and an estimated $10 billion in 2018. "As far as the subsidies are concerned, I don't want to make the insurance companies rich. They're making a fortune by getting that kind of money,” said the president. In response, the attorneys general for 18 states said they would sue the president and ask that the court force President Trump to make the next payment. A federal court has already ruled that the subsidies to insurers are illegal. The case is on appeal in Washington DC. No act of Congress authorized the subsidy payments to insurers. They were a creation of the Obama administration. Senator Schumer said that Congress is working to find a way to continue the subsidy payments in a bipartisan way. After announcing the administration would not make the next payment, President Trump invited Democratic leaders to the White House offering to negotiate a better deal.

Eliminating the Death Tax Would Grow The Economy

Oct 14, 2017

Getting rid of the death tax could create nearly 160,000 jobs according to Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform. The estate tax is a tax on everything that a person owns at the time of his death. It kicks in when the estate is valued at $5.45 million and above. Norquist went on to say that the economy would increase by nearly one percent. “The death tax is a tax on life savings . . . We know that has a history of slowing and damaging economic growth.” Norquist pointed out that America has the fourth highest death tax. “The average in Europe at least on the death tax is 15 percent and [the U.S is] at 40 [percent]. According the the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council, the death tax “destroys family-owned businesses, it sucks a vast amount of resources that could be put into productive investment, wealth creation, quality job creation as well.” According to the Council, more businesses are closing down than are starting. The Council estimates 3.4 million businesses are missing in the economy.

President Decertifies Iran’s Compliance With Nuclear Agreement

Oct 14, 2017

On Friday, President Trump announced that he would decertify Iran’s compliance with the nuclear agreement. The president said that Iran is “not living up to the spirit” of the agreement. He added that it is his goal to make certain Iran never develops a nuclear weapon. "We will not continue down a path whose predictable conclusion is more violence more terror and the very real threat of Iran’s nuclear breakout," said the president. The president’s actions do not pull the United States out of the agreement. Instead he gave Congress 60 days to formulate new standards that Iran will have to follow or risk severe economic sanctions. The president said that if the administration is “not able to reach a solution working with Congress and our allies, the the agreement will be terminated.” While Israel welcomed President Trump’s speech, the country’s intelligence minister warned that war could break out given Tehran’s rhetoric. Secretary of State Tillerson said he considered putting the issue of Iran’s compliance into the hands of Congress was the best way to fix the deal.

Congress To Impose New Restrictions On Iran

Oct 14, 2017

After saying that he would decertify Iran’s compliance with the nuclear agreement, the issue now goes before Congress. Some members want to impose “new standards restricting [Iran’s] ballistic missile program, arms buildup,” and Congress wants to impose more inspections on sites “suspected of engaging in nuclear work.” As well, the forthcoming legislation would end “sunset clauses” that currently restrict “Iran’s advanced nuclear research and weapons buildup” but will expire in five to six years. If Iran does not agree to the new restrictions, the country would face new economic sanctions. “The days of appeasing the Mullah’s every wish and sitting back and watching as the terrorist state goes nuclear are over,” said a congressional official. Under the new proposals, Iran would be restricted from “developing, testing, and operating ballistic missile technology.” It would be stopped from “installing advanced nuclear centrifuges that can enrich uranium.” In light of Iran’s deal with Russia to construct heavy water nuclear reactors, Congress is looking to impose restrictions on their construction. Plutonium can be produced as a bi-product of uranium enrichment.

Mattis Elaborates on Freedom of Navigation Exercise

Oct 14, 2017

Secretary of Defense James Mattis said that the United States did not violate China’s sovereignty. “We stay strictly in accordance with international law, so there’s no violation of anyone’s sovereignty,” said Mattis. The U.S. Navy sent the USS Chafee near islands that China has claimed as its own. The islands are also claimed by Vietnam and Taiwan. The Pentagon sent the Chafee into the region so as to challenge China’s “excessive maritime claims.” Mattis pointed out that the United States has been conducting freedom of navigation maneuvers for decades and that the most recent maneuvers were nothing more than benign. During the Obama administration, freedom of navigation exercises in the South China Sea were curtailed. During that time, China created 3,200 acres of new islands in that region. The Chinese are currently militarizing the islands. China has built runways, jet hangers, port facilities, and storage depots for water and fuel. During the naval exercise, China sent naval ships and fighter planes to shadow the American destroyer. China’s statement said in part, “[W]e demand the U.S. side earnestly take steps to correct its mistakes and inject positive energy into bilateral ties.”

Senator Collins Will Stay in DC Swamp

Oct 14, 2017

Senator Susan Collins of Maine will stay in the DC swamp and keep dividing a “divided and troubled Washington.” Collins had been considering a run for the governorship of Maine. In her announcement clarifying her political future, Collins said, “The challenges we face today are enormous – from frustrated families with stagnant wages and expensive health care to a nuclear-armed North Korea and Russian interference in the very fabric of our democracy, our elections." “Collins concluded ‘that the best way that I can contribute to these priorities is to remain a member of the United States Senate.’” She bragged about her ability to cross the aisle, “build coalitions,” and “listen to the people of [Maine] and my country.” Mitch McConnell congratulated Collins saying that “she brings conviction, smarts and leadership to every issue.” Collins is a moderate politician who has worked actively to undermine conservatives in Congress.

30 Pages of Documents Found Related to Lynch-Clinton Tarmac Meeting

Oct 14, 2017

The FBI has discovered 30 documents relating to the June 27, 2016 meeting between former Attorney General Loretta Lynch and Bill Clinton. Earlier the FBI said that it had no documents related to the happenstance meeting where nothing but grandkids and golf were discussed. Judicial Watch caught wind of the documents’ existence by way of another lawsuit. The FBI says that it needs “six weeks to produce the documents.” The meeting between Lynch and Clinton occurred just as the FBI investigation of Hillary Clinton was wrapping up. Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch said, “The FBI is out of control. It is stunning that the FBI ‘found’ these Clinton-Lynch tarmac records only after we caught the agency hiding them in another lawsuit.” Fitton went on to say, “Judicial Watch will continue to press for answers about the FBI’s documents games in court. In the meantime, the FBI should stop the stonewall and release these new records immediately.”

Unemployment Continues to Fall

Oct 13, 2017

Despite the disruptions created by the disasters caused by the recent hurricanes the claims for unemployment benefits in the United States are the lowest they have been for almost 44 years. This is an indication that layoffs are rare and that new job creation is very strong. It is also a sign that businesses in Texas, Florida, and Louisiana are recovering from the hurricanes faster than expected. In addition, the inflation rate remains low and the stock market continues to be strong. It is hoped that these signs of a strong economy will help convince Congress to move swiftly on tax reform.

Weinstein Scandal Widens

Oct 13, 2017

The fallout from the sexual harassment scandal involving Harvey Weinstein is extending into other prominent media companies. NBC News is struggling to explain its refusal to use the well documented story that was presented to it by a freelance reporter for its own network. Now, Amazon has indefinitely suspended one of its top executives, Roy Price who is the head of the entertainment division, amid allegations of sexual harassment. He is also linked to possible cover ups on behalf of Weinstein and retaliation against the young woman who initiated the original claims against the movie mogul. She claims that Amazon cancelled production of a project that she had submitted and had been approved, after she exposed Weinstein. Price was apparently responsible for the cancellation.

Kelly Says He’s Not Quitting

Oct 13, 2017

In the last few days, another liberal publication “Vanity Fair” has cited unnamed sources in a claim that White House Chief of Staff John Kelly was very unhappy in his job and was considering resigning. However, in a surprise move yesterday Kelly appeared in the press room to conduct the White House Press Briefing himself. He absolutely denied the Vanity Fair report and made references to other inaccuracies in news reports that were supposed to be based on leaks. He suggested they might want to find other “sources.” He also pointed out to the media that there are many issues that have just been kicked down the road by previous administrations, and that places additional burdens on President Trump.

Obama Officials Called Before Congress

Oct 13, 2017

Former Attorney General Loretta Lynch and United Nations Ambassador Samantha Power are both scheduled to testify before the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee in the next few weeks. The committee has been investigating possible collusion between the Russians and the Trump campaign during the 2016 election campaign. Since absolutely no evidence of that has been uncovered the committee now wants testimony about the Hillary Clinton email scandal and the unmasking of Americans who were innocent parties to intelligence surveillance. Unmasking can be requested under certain circumstances, but Power was constantly doing it.

Congress Warned of EMP Attack

Oct 13, 2017

In a dire warning to a congressional committee yesterday that the United States is extremely vulnerable to a nuclear EMP attack that could shut down the nation’s electrical grid for an indefinite period. They said that this would result in the death of ninety percent of Americans within a year. There would be no power, no water, no internet, no banking, no communications, and now healthcare available particularly in the large cities where there would soon be food riots and massive looting. The experts are urging the Congress to reestablish the congressional EMP commission that was studying this problem, and possible ways to strengthen the protection of the electric grid that has been allowed to deteriorate over recent years.

California Fires Covering 170,000 Acres

Oct 13, 2017

There are now over 31 people known dead in the 16 California wildfires that continue to burn unchecked. Hundreds of other people are listed as missing and over 50,000 people have had to evacuate their homes. More evacuations are being ordered and over 3,500 structures had been destroyed by the raging infernos. Despite the deployment of helicopters and aircraft along with thousands of firefighters the sheer size of the fires that now cover over 170,000 acres makes it very difficult to make in headway in even containing the fires. This disaster is well on its way to becoming the worst wildfire in U.S. history.

Pelosi Wants to Let Enemy Strike First

Oct 13, 2017

Nancy Pelosi wants a law passed that would prohibit the President of the United States from launching a preemptive nuclear strike against an enemy. Although she denies this is aimed against President Trump that is clearly her intent. However, the implications would be far reaching and highly dangerous for the country. Essentially, Pelosi wants to prohibit the president from going after an enemy like North Korea even if there was credible evidence that the regime was going to hit the U.S. first. Pelosi would limit the President’s ability to prevent such a strike by acting preemptively. The President could only act after we were attacked, and millions of Americans are dead.

Trump Starts Dismantling Obamacare

Oct 13, 2017

After the United States Senate failed twice to approve legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare President Obama has decided to initiate action on his own. He has issued an executive order to create a situation where small businesses and other groups can form associations to negotiate better insurance contracts for their employees. A major feature of the order is that it allows such groups to negotiate with insurance companies in other states, something that in the past has been prohibited by federal regulations. Supporters of the Trump order say it will make insurance much more affordable for millions of people.

Britain Wants To Regulate Tech Companies as News Organizations

Oct 13, 2017

Britain’s Prime Minister Theresa May is considering regulating Facebook and Google in the “same way as news organizations.” The change in regulation would make the companies “responsible for illegal content on their platforms.” Whatever the British government happens to consider illegal such as “terrorist content, pornography, or perhaps one day fake news — these big companies could be fined.” Just last week, it was reported that if people even view “far-right propaganda” online, offenders could face fifteen years in prison. The government did not define what “far-right propaganda” was, so the definition could be forever changing and never really defined. Home Secretary Rudd wants to regulate the way encryption is used. She did not care that she did not understand encryption saying, “I don’t need to understand how encryption works to understand how it’s helping the criminals. I will engage with the security services to find the best way to combat that.” Google, Facebook, Twitter, and other large tech companies are gearing up to confront a wave of regulation that may be coming their way.

California Wildfires

Oct 13, 2017

As fires rage through California, the number of missing people has risen to 670. At least 21 people are known to have died. Thousands more are living in shelters. However, authorities believe that many of the missing will be found alive. Property damage estimates report at least 3,500 businesses, houses, including 11 wineries have been destroyed in California’s wine country. Across the state, firefighters were able to extinguish 43 fires in a 24 hour period. In California’s wine counties, firefighters have been helped with substantially slower winds than they experienced on Monday. Any wine grapes that survive the fires and are harvested will affect the quality of the wine. The chemicals in the smoke cause the wine “to have an ashtray taste.” After the 2008 fires, wineries sold off their grapes “at big discounts to the bulk market.” In addition to the huge financial hit to the California wine industry, the French wine industry is “expecting to have the worst wine grape harvest since 1945.” A mild March and heavy frost in April damaged the French wine industry.

DOJ Warns Cities To Comply Or Lose Funding

Oct 13, 2017

The Department of Justice warned five sanctuary jurisdictions this week to prove they are “complying with federal law or else risk losing millions of dollars in federal grants.” Philadelphia, New York City, New Orleans, Chicago and surrounding Cook County, Illinois have until October 27 to demonstrate their compliance. Philadelphia shot back saying the Department of Justice “won’t be satisfied unless we actively join them in scaring immigrants out of our communities. We are not going to do that.” Philadelphia has policies that forbid “local officials from giving immigration authorities notice that a person is being released from custody” unless a felony conviction is involved. New York City’s mayor said that if federal funds are cut off, it will sue the Trump administration. New Orleans Mayor Landrieu declared that his city’s police department would “not be the federal government’s deportation force.” The Department of Justice blames “lax immigration enforcement for fostering a culture of lawlessness . . . “ Earlier in October, California became a sanctuary state. In response, the director of Immigration, Customs, and Enforcement promised to send in more federal agents into communities to arrest illegal immigrants.

House Passes Disaster Relief Package

Oct 13, 2017

Members of the House of Representatives passed a disaster relief bill that provides money to Puerto Rico as well as to other states dealing with fires and hurricane cleanup. Lawmakers voted to spend $36.5 billion for food aid, flood insurance, and disaster relief. The current total of disaster relief spending since September is almost $42 billion. Some Republicans want Congress to offset the spending with cuts in other areas of the federal budget. Representative Mark Walker argued “It is only a matter of time before the U.S. faces the next catastrophe. But for some reason, the government does not budget with this in mind.” Other Republicans told their colleagues that reforms to the government’s flood insurance program need to be made. Representative David Schweikert said, “Emergency is emergency, but there are programs we’re going to have to deal [with], bite the bullet, and I think flood insurance is one of them, where you also have a moral hazard in its current design.” Puerto Rico will have to rebuild many of its roads and bridges after they were destroyed by Hurricane Maria.

Pelosi Urges Changes to America’s First Strike Capability

Oct 13, 2017

House Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi, is attempting to change the law by which the president can use nuclear weapons. The change would disallow for a first strike. Nuclear weapons could only be used if the United States is attacked first. At a press conference Thursday, Pelosi characterized the “1946 law authorizing the president to launch pre-emptive nuclear strikes as ‘ancient.’” Pelosi offered a couple of different ideas on how to change the law. Under one proposal there would be more Cabinet officials who would advise the president before an attack. Another would be a declaration the the United States would never be the first party to use nuclear weapons. Pelosi denied that her suggestions are designed to reign in President Trump. Instead she indicated that her ideas were to deal with the reality of today’s world. Since becoming president, Trump has been outspoken in his rhetoric towards North Korea and Iran. He may decertify the Iran nuclear agreement because he is convinced that Iran is not living up to the spirit of the agreement.

Spanish Farmers Confuse Police

Oct 13, 2017

Farmers in Catalonia were able to fool police and stop them from shutting down independence protests. Protestors were striking because of the “police brutality carried out by Spanish police officers during the vote.” Hundreds of people were injured during the voting as police tried to close polling stations. Just days after the vote, farmers put out word that they planned to “close off the border with France using their tractors.” Spanish police arrived by the hundreds to prevent the farmers from carrying out their plan. However, the farmers did not show up. Instead they “closed off the motorway and all roads heading back into the Catalonia — leaving the police officers trapped.” Police were unable to “intervene during the peak of the general strike.” The initial plan was to close down the railway. But as events unfolded, the farmers chose to close the roads.

Democratic Leader Under Fire

Oct 13, 2017

Democratic National Committee Chairman, Tom Perez, is coming under fire from some fellow Democrats. According to Democratic activists, Perez is not doing enough to create enthusiasm in the party and his fundraising efforts are ineffective. July was the DNC’ worst fundraising month since 2007. “A lot of us feel like there’s nothing exciting, nothing invigorating coming from that building and particularly from Tom Perez,” said a Democratic fundraiser. According to the fundraiser, Perez is doing little if anything to “reach out to all the big fundraisers.” Recently Perez announced that he’d be returning to some teaching duties at Brown University. A strategist for the DNC said, “Being DNC chair is a full time job. There isn’t time for side gigs.” According to Representative Luis Gutiérrez, Perez was an “establishment pick.” “Part of the problem is that when you’re a parachutist into the party [and] you didn’t work yourself up the party chain and in the trenches, I think you’re going to have problems, especially with [what] is still a very divisive and contested match,” said Gutiérrez.

Conservative Legislators in Illinois Fight Governor Over Abortion

Oct 13, 2017

Conservatives in Illinois are seeking to restrict taxpayer funding for abortion. The legislation comes in response to the Republican governor’s recent signing of legislation “that would allow Medicaid and state health-care plans to cover abortions.” Republican Senator Dan McConchie said, “This controversial and culturally divisive act should not be one that taxpayers should be forced to fund.” “Likewise, there is no good reason for taxpayers to be on the hook for someone else’s personal decision.” When the Republican governor signed the legislation, he defended his decision saying, “I believe that a woman living with limited financial means should not be put in the position where she has to choose something different than a woman of higher income would be able to choose.” The response by conservative Republican legislators highlights the sharp divide between their position and that of the governor’s. Governor Rauner is likely to face a strong Republican primary challenge in 2018 when he seeks a second term.

Chief of Staff Disputes Fake News

Oct 13, 2017

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly went before the press at a White House daily news briefing. The chief of staff took issue with the many fake news stories that are circulating about the president and White House politics. Kelly said that his job is not to ‘control’ the president. Instead, he characterized his job as controlling the information flow to the president. "It's funny, I read in the paper—you all know, you write it—that I have been a failure at controlling the president or a failure at controlling his tweeting and all that. I was not brought to this job to control anything but the flow of information to our president so that he can make the best decisions." He went on to say that President Trump is “a decisive guy” and “very thoughtful.” Kelly rebuked the press saying that it is “‘astounding’ how much the press misreport about the White House.” He stressed the his effectiveness as chief of staff should not be measured by what the press thinks he should or should not be doing. “I can guarantee to you that he is now presented with option, well thought out options.”

Recall Effort In California Slogging Forward

Oct 13, 2017

Republicans in California are working to recall Democrat state Senator Josh Newman because he voted to increase the states gasoline tax. Democrats have worked to derail the recall effort saying that the effort misled voters into thinking that “it was a push to repeal the gas tax.” Democrats pushed to allow voters to rescind their signatures on the recall-petition. Carl DeMaio, a conservative talk radio host is leading the recall effort. "The Democrats are full of manure . . .,” DeMaio said. “They are desperate to prevent the voters from having their constitutional right to a recall election.” "They don’t want the citizens to be able to fire their politicians so they continue to change the rules, to send in bullies and frivolous lawsuits.” Three California counties have until October 24 to verify the signatures of those voters who have requested that their signatures be rescinded from the recall petition. Republicans consider Newman vulnerable because he won his election last November by a razor-thin margin. His election handed Democrats a super-majority in the California Senate. Democrats do not need Republican support to push through their agenda.

NPR Ends Kaspersky Underwriting

Oct 13, 2017

National Public Radio announced that Kaspersky Lab is no longer a corporate underwriter. Agencies of the U.S. government believe that Kaspersky is tied to the Russian government. Possible evidence emerged recently that “Russian hackers have been using Kaspersky Lab antivirus software as a gateway for hacking . . . “ The software is used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide. Hackers allegedly turned the software “into a sort of Google search for sensitive information.” Recently, an employee of the National Security Agency had his home computer hacked and classified information stored improperly on his computer was stolen. Several weeks ago, President Trump ordered government agencies to stop using and remove Kaspersky anti-virus software on all their computer systems. Kaspersky Labs denies any ties to the Kremlin or any other government.

Czech President Urges Europeans to Arm

Oct 13, 2017

Czech President Zeman is urging fellow European politicians to allow for citizens to be armed. In an address to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Zeman said, “The level of international crime is growing because of Islamic terrorism.” He continued, “What can we do against international criminality? Invest in the police, invest in the army, and have the courage to invest in our own guns.” In June, the Czech parliament passed legislation to allow for its citizens to be armed. Citizens enjoy some of the most liberal gun rights in all of Europe. Zeman said that his wife carries a pistol. Both Switzerland and the Czech Republic have a a “lower homicide rate than the United Kingdom, which is experiencing a surge in gun violence despite incredibly heavy restrictions on gun ownership . . . “ Elsewhere in Europe in spite of heavy gun control, “Islamists have been able to acquire firearms for use in a number of terrorist atrocities.” The Czech President was a veteran of the Prague Spring uprising that stood against the communist regime in 1968.

Another U.S. Nuclear Carrier Heading Toward Korea

Oct 12, 2017

The powerful nuclear aircraft carrier the USS Theodore Roosevelt has left its home base in San Diego and according to the South Korean military is scheduled to join the USS Ronald Reagan in the area. This will place two powerful American carrier strike forces in the region and is clearly designed to send another message to North Korea.

This comes as Kim Jong Un is expected to soon launch another test of an intercontinental ballistic missile that may be capable of reaching the United States. The projected presence of the Roosevelt will not be a deterrent to such a test, but combined with increased economic pressure will definitely get the communist dictator’s attention.

Mysterious Rise in Radiation Levels in Europe

Oct 12, 2017

Scientists are baffled by a mysterious rise in radiation levels in parts of Europe including Germany, Italy, Austria, France, and Switzerland. The levels of Ruthenium 106 are not life threatening at this point, but scientists have thus far been unable to pinpoint their origin. Speculation is that the isotopes may be coming from Russia which may be an indication of another nuclear accident. The Russians originally attempted to cover up the major incident in Chernobyl in 1986 that caused the whole area in Ukraine to be evacuated and it is still uninhabitable. There are no indications that history is repeating itself, but there is still considerable concern in Europe.

Spain Threatens Catalonia

Oct 12, 2017

The people of the part of Spain known as Catalonia has its own language and culture and recently voted overwhelmingly to secede from Spain and become an independent country. The outcome of the vote was certified by the leader of the opposition, but the actual succession was put temporarily on hold in the hope of negotiating a settlement.

However, the Spanish government is refusing to negotiate and has given the rogue region a week to declare the election void. Otherwise the Spanish will revoke the limited autonomy the region and take complete control. That could lead to a civil war.

Trump on the Stump for Tax Bill

Oct 12, 2017

It appears that President Trump may have learned a valuable lesson from the failure of the two attempts to repeal and place Obamacare to pass the Senate. He basically left the entire matter to the Senate Republicans to work out. They obviously failed, so when it comes to the push for tax reform, and tax reduction the President is using the “bully pulpit” and taking his case directly to the American people.

He started in Pennsylvania with an audience made up of friendly voters, many of them involved in the trucking industry that will benefit from the cuts in taxes for businesses and the abolition of the estate tax. He carefully laid out the meat of the proposals and that approach may ultimately make the difference.

Weinstein Story Killed by NBC

Oct 12, 2017

It now appears that there has been a lot of cover-ups in Hollywood and the national news media of the Harvey Weinstein scandal. A few days ago the New York Times broke the story of sexual allegations against the Hollywood movie mogul and big time contributor to the Democrat party. Then it was reported by others that this had been known to the Times executives for many years.

Now a freelance reporter for NBC Ronan Farrow who wrote the story published in the New Yorker Magazine says he first brought the story to NBC News that refused to run it. NBC does not deny this, but says they did not think the story was ready for prime time. That is clearly not what the editors of the New Yorker magazine thought.

Trump Lashes Out at NBC News

Oct 12, 2017

In the latest flap between President Donald Trump and the mainstream media the president has accused NBC News of “fake news”. This stems from an NBC claim that during a meeting with the country’s top military leaders Trump called for a “tenfold” increase in America’s nuclear arsenal. The report was based on the usual unnamed sources, and was flatly denied by Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis who was present for the entire meeting.

The president also wondered in the tweet if NBCs broadcast license could be revoked, but did not actually threaten to do that. In any case he does not have the power and networks do not have to be licensed.

Wildfires Continue to Spread in California

Oct 12, 2017

The death toll continues to climb in California as the number of out of control wildfires also continues to grow. There are at least 22 fires now being faced by firefighters who are already spread too thin. Winds have picked back up and over 500 people are reported missing and the property damage is tremendous. In addition, there is no rain in the forecast for at least a week.

Thousands of people have been evacuated and because the fires are still out of control they will not be able to return to their homes anytime soon, or to even find out if they have homes left.

Conservatives Call Mitch a Failed Leader

Oct 12, 2017

Several conservative organizations called on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and several others in Senate leadership to resign. Republican leaders inability to pass the president’s agenda was cited as the reason. Jenny Beth Martin of Tea Party patriots cited a list of Republican offenses. “They promised to end the Obama area practice of spending more than the government takes in, so we can balance the budget and pay down our $20 trillion national debt.” “They promised to nominate and confirm Constitutionalists to the federal bench.” “They promised to secure our borders, protect American jobs, and end the scourge of illegal immigration.” “And in their most famous campaign promise of all, they promised to repeal ObamaCare, and I quote, ‘root and branch.’” Martin went on to say that the failures represent a “failure of leadership.” “Mitch McConnell has had his chance. he has failed to deliver. It is time for him to go.” The coalition of conservative activists issued a letter to the Senate leadership saying, “it is time for you and your leadership team to step aside for new leadership that is committed to the promises made to the American people. America is too good for you to lead it.”

Democrat House Member Introduces Impeachment Resolution

Oct 12, 2017

Democrat Representative Al Green addressed the floor of the House on Wednesday. He introduced articles of impeachment against President Trump. "I rise today on behalf of the many who have concluded that enough is enough.” Representative Green began his rhetorical indictment of the president saying, "Resolved that Donald J. Trump, president of the United States of America, has undermined the integrity of his office with impunity and has brought disrepute on the presidency … has betrayed his trust as president to the manifest injury of the American people and is unfit to be president, and is impeached pursuant to Article II, Section IV, of the Constitution of the United States of America," he said. For 23 minutes, Representative Green went on to complain that the president was guilty of all manner of terrible things including “inciting white supremacy, sexism, bigotry, hatred, xenophobia, race-baiting, and racism while in office.” Because Representative Green brought the articles under a Point of Privilege of the House, members had to take action on the legislation. The presiding officer of the House offered to consider the resolution within the hour, however Representative Green to did show up, “allowing the window for considering the vote to pass for the time being.”

Sentencing Reform Legislation Introduced

Oct 12, 2017

Democratic and Republican Senators are introducing sentencing reform legislation. Three of the bills address changes to federal sentencing guidelines. Enhancement penalties for certain drug offenders would be reduced, firearm offense mandatory minimum would be clarified, the “three strikes and you’re out” mandatory life imprisonment provision would be struck from the law. Judges would also be given more latitude in sentencing for most offenses so that they would not always be bound to impose mandatory minimums. Programs to reduce recidivism would be established. 50 percent of federal offenders end up back in prison within eight years. The legislation would “‘report and inventory . . . all federal criminal offenses,’ a list that would likely be hundreds of thousands of items long.” The Mens Rea Reform Act would restore the tradition of intent to crimes. A person can violate any one of hundreds of thousands of criminal statues without intending to and still end up being convicted of a federal crime and ending up in prison.

Deputy Attorney General Calls For “Responsible Encryption”

Oct 12, 2017

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein called for “responsible encryption.” According to the Deputy AG, the government should not be hindered by such antiquities such as the Fourth Amendment. He called the strong encryption built into many devices as “one of our greatest challenges.” "Warrant-proof encryption defeats the constitutional balance by elevating privacy above public safety,” Rosenstein told midshipmen at the Naval Academy. "Encrypted communications that cannot be intercepted and locked devices that cannot be opened are law-free zones that permit criminals and terrorists to operate without detection by police and without accountability by judges and juries.” Angelo Codevilla of the Claremont Institute responded saying, “The U.S. government is asking for access to our doors, but is incapable of guarding those doors. We Americans have come to trust encryption for the same reason we have had to fall back on our own guns for our own protection.” Kurt Opsahl of the Electronic Frontier Foundation said that the courts have found code to be speech an “that the First Amendment protects the distribution of strong encryption.”

Former Obama Advisor Pushes Gun Control

Oct 12, 2017

Dan Pfeiffer, a former advisor to President Obama, called for an Australian-style gun confiscation program. Pfeiffer called on Democrats to stop “insincere pandering” to gun owners. "We are nibbling around the edges instead of proposing bold, meaningful solutions.” Pfeiffer proposed a gun registry, “smart-gun technology,” and a buy back program. "Democratic politicians have been brainwashed by political hacks like me to begin all of their statements about guns by declaring support for the Second Amendment and a deep affinity for the cultures of hunters and sportsmen.” Pfeiffer did not call on Democrats to repeal the Second Amendment. But rather argue that the Second Amendment does not protect an individual’s right to own a gun. "The Second Amendment is in many ways an anachronism, framed before the age of drones and cruise missiles, when a well-armed civilian militia have actually been capable of turning back a foreign invasion. Times change. This is not Red Dawn. You are not Patrick Swayze. Chill out." He concluded saying that Democrats have failed because they have not made “robust, courageous, and honest arguments to the country.”

Bannon Promises to Primary Republican Incumbents

Oct 12, 2017

Senate Republicans up for re-election in 2018 will face primary challenges. A Steve Bannon associated group, The Great America Alliance, announced that it will back anti-establishment candidates in West Virginia, Montana, and Tennessee. One criteria for Bannon’s support is that they will not back Mitch McConnell for Senate Majority Leader. Other things that candidates are being asked to support is the end of the legislative filibuster and to support the president’s trade and immigration policies. Bannon announced that he plans to support primary challengers in every Republican Senate race except for Ted Cruz. More endorsements are expected in the coming weeks. Bannon told Fox’s Sean Hannity, “They have to understand something — just voting is not good enough. You have to have a sense of urgency. Nobody’s safe. We’re coming after all of them. And we’re going to win.” The Republican establishment is believes the Bannon effect is overstated. In Alabama, Bannon came in late when it appeared to be a foregone conclusion that Judge Roy Moore was going to win. “There was no ground game, no infrastructure, just the press ready to give [Bannon] more credit than he deserved.”

President to Sign Executive Order on Healthcare

Oct 12, 2017

President Trump plans to sign an executive order on Thursday that will affect healthcare. The order will allow small businesses to come together “to buy health insurance, through what are known as association health plans . . . “ The order will also end “short-term health insurance plans” that the Obama administration had limited. The president’s order will instruct the Department of Labor to update “rules to allow small employers to create association health plans.” Small businesses in the same state, line of business, or in the same trade association will be able to come together and buy health insurance. Under the order, people will be able to pay for their healthcare premiums with pre-tax dollars from their health savings accounts. The order falls short though. While small businesses will be able to cooperate, the order makes no mention of individuals being able to join association healthcare plans. However the short-term health insurance market could do damage to the individual Obamacare market. Democrats fear “that healthier people will migrate to cheaper, short-term plans, leaving only sicker people in Obamacare plans and driving up premiums.”

Spain Asks for Clarification on Independence

Oct 12, 2017

Spain’s Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy asked the president of Spains Catalan region to clarify whether or not he had actually declared independence from the rest of Spain. The Catalan president appeared to have declared independence from Spain and then suspended it and called for further dialogue with Spain’s government. Rajoy said that Catalonia’s leader had created “deliberate confusion” with his comments and actions on Tuesday. Not waiting for a response, Rajoy invoked Article 155 of Spain’s Constitution. The article “would allow Madrid to suspend Catalan lawmakers and take charge of the region’s autonomous administration.” “It is urgent to put an end to the situation that Catalonia is living. The government wants to offer certainties to Spaniards and Catalans,” said Rajoy. While Rajoy is under pressure to stop the Catalan secession, Rajoy has a history of caution and may let the Catalan leader dig his own hole. “[S]trong reprisals against the region’s leader . . . could galvanized the independence movement.”

North Korea Says Trump Has Lit “The Wick of War”

Oct 12, 2017

North Korea’s foreign minister said “With his bellicose and insane statement at the United Nations, Trump, you can say, has lit the wick of a war against us.” “We need to settle the final score, only with a hail of fire, not words.” On Saturday, President Trump tweeted, “Presidents and their administrations have been talking to North Korea for 25 years, agreements made and massive amounts of money paid hasn’t worked, agreements violated before the ink was dry, making fools of U.S. negotiators. Sorry, but only one thing will work!” The United States flew two bombers over the Korean Peninsula on Tuesday, simulating an “air-to-ground missile-firing drill with two South Korean F-15K fighters over the East Sea.” The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called the rise in tensions “unacceptable.” Secretary of Defense Mattis said President Trump is committed to finding a diplomatic solution, but in the event of failure, the U.S. Army should “stand ready” for war. "Now what does the future hold? Neither you nor I can say, so there is one thing the US Army can do. "And that is you have got to be ready to ensure that we have military options that our President can employ if needed."

United States Ramping Up Naval Vessels in Western Pacific

Oct 12, 2017

The United States is sending another aircraft carrier to the western Pacific. The USS Theodore Roosevelt left San Diego last week and is steaming towards the Korean Peninsula. The ship will take a few weeks to cross the Pacific. The aircraft carrier has 7,500 Marines and sailors on board. Admiral Steve Koehler called the service members “ready as a war fighting force.” The USS Theodore Roosevelt will join the USS Ronald Reagan. The Reagan is conducting joint exercises with the Japanese military near Okinawa. The Reagan will steam towards the Korean Peninsula later in October and take part in joint exercises with the South Korean military. Six U.S. planes, including two bombers, flew over the Korean Peninsula Tuesday in a show of force. The Trump administration has speculated that military action may be the only way to resolve the North Korean missile crisis.

Congress’ Personal Drug Provider

Oct 12, 2017

Grubb’s Pharmacy is Washington D.C’s oldest pharmacy. It’s roots go all the way back to 1867. For over a century it has supplied the drug needs of the ruling class on Capitol Hill. Mike Kim, the owner of the pharmacy, has gotten to know the most intimate details of members of Congress. “At first it’s cool, and then you realize, I’m filling some drugs that are for some pretty serious health problems as well. And these are the people that are running the country. It makes you kind of sit back and say, ‘Wow, they’re making the highest laws of the land and they might not even remember what happened yesterday.’” At its busiest, the pharmacy may drop off as many as 100 prescriptions a day to members of Congress. According to Kim, members of Congress do not get any discounts, but they might get to jump to the head of the line. For the most part, members of Congress are just like any other customer In a follow up interview, Kim made it clear “patient privacy is a very serious matter that I am committed to upholding.” He did not identify any members of Congress, the prescriptions they are taking, or the medical conditions that any of them are facing.

Venezuela’s Inflation Rate to Become the Highest in the World

Oct 11, 2017

The brutal dictatorship of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela continues to destroy the economy of what was once one the most prosperous countries in the western hemisphere. People are literally starving to death, and anyone who opposes the government is arrested or simply disappears.

Now, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is estimating that inflation in the country will rise to an incredible 2,349.3 percent in 2018. This will be the highest rate in the world and will be devastating to a population in a country where consumer goods are scarce to begin with. Very few people will be able to afford the few products that are available so starvation and deprivation will continue and worsen for those people who are not members of the ruling party.

Trump Wins Victory in SCOTUS

Oct 11, 2017

In a major victory for the Trump Administration the U.S. Supreme Court has dismissed the lawsuit challenging the President’s travel ban. The Department of Justice asked the court to dismiss the suit on the grounds that the suit was moot since the President had made significant changes to the ban including adding several non-Muslim countries.

The justices agreed and their dismissal means that plaintiffs will have to file a new lawsuit that will have to go through the court system, and in all likelihood will not be successful since the president has the constitutional right to take such action.

U.S. Conducts Military Drills near North Korea

Oct 11, 2017

Two U.S. Airforce B-1B bombers accompanied by two South Korean Airforce F 15k fighters conducted a training mission near North Korea this past week. The bombers flew from the U.S. base in Guam and conducted air to ground missile firing drills. They then flew across the Korean peninsula from the East Sea to the Yellow Sea to conduct more drills. This was all reported by the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The message to Kim Jong Un and his government is clear; the United States is perfectly capable of launching massive air strikes against the regime and will not hesitate to do so if provoked.

North Korea Launching Cyberattacks on U.S. Utility Companies

Oct 11, 2017

A private cybersecurity company has issued a report detailing the attempts by hackers connected to the North Korean government to hack into U.S. utility companies for the purpose of inserting malware into their computers. This seems to confirm the growing concern among the intelligence community that North Korea has developed the capability to attack the U.S. infrastructure.

What makes this even more worrisome is the threat of Kim Jong Un will use a nuclear weapon in an Electro Magnetic Pulse attack on the electrical grids in the United States. If such an attack was successful the majority of the U.S. infrastructure would be destroyed for years and millions would die.

ESPN Host Goes After Jerry Jones

Oct 11, 2017

Despite Jemele Hill being suspended for two weeks for calling for people to boycott Dallas Cowboys sponsors because owner Jerry Jones told his players to either stand for the national anthem or go home, another liberal on ESPN had to put in his two cents worth. Michael Wilbon, co-host of a show called “Pardon the Interruption” claimed that Jerry Jones is essentially running a plantation and treating his players like slaves.

The comment immediately raised many eyebrows of individuals who wondered how people who are played millions of dollars per year to play football for the Dallas Cowboys could be compared to slaves. Jerry Jones has a business that pays these players to play football, not use the team as a forum for their personal political beliefs.

Rape Allegations Surface Against Harvey Weinstein

Oct 11, 2017

The problems for embattled movie mogul and Democrat fund raiser, Harvey Weinstein continue to grow. New accusations have surfaced in a story in the New Yorker magazine that involves women who claim that Weinstein actually raped them. This goes beyond the previous allegations of sexual harassment.

In addition, more Hollywood stars are coming forward. Gwyneth Paltrow has now admitted that she was sexually harassed by Weinstein. Angelina Jolie has made the same claim. Even Hillary Clinton, a long-time friend and beneficiary of Weinstein’s fundraising has now come forward after five days and criticized him and his actions. The new accusations may lead to actual criminal charges.

California Wildfires Continue to Rage Out of Control

Oct 11, 2017

Over 15 people have now been confirmed dead and a hundred injured in the continually raging fires in the Napa Valley area of California and surrounding counties. Over a hundred and fifty people are still listed as missing as the fourteen fires continue to be out of control. Over 2,000 structures have been burned to the ground, and the sheer size of the area affected has firefighters stretched very thin.

On Tuesday the firefighters got a slight break when the winds died down, but they are expected to pick up again on Wednesday. This places a burden on the first responders who are fighting fires that in some cases are covering 20,000 to 25,000 acres each.

NFL Feeling the Heat

Oct 11, 2017

After essentially ignoring the controversy surrounding players disrespecting the American flag by kneeling during the National Anthem before games the corporate heads of the NFL are finally getting the message. Their fan base is angry and reacting by refusing to buy tickets for games, boycotting NFL games on television, and boycotting NFL products and sponsors.

Finally, the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has sent a letter to all of the teams in the league telling them that everyone should stand for the anthem before a game. He did not specify what might happen if teams and their members fail to comply, but the regulations of the league already provide for fines and other sanctions.

Illinois Sinking in Debt

Oct 11, 2017

The comptroller of Illinois is juggling billions of dollars in unpaid bills. In the last three months billions of dollars in more bills have been sent to the comptroller’s office for payment. In some cases agencies were waiting until a budget resolution was finalized before sending in their bills. For instance, the Department of Corrections was withholding $471 million in unpaid bills. The governor vetoed legislation that would have required state agencies to report monthly their unsubmitted bills. The state legislature plans to vote to override the veto. The governor vetoed the bill because the state cannot tally its unsubmitted bills in a cost effective way. Many of the state’s bills are over 90 days old and “face a 1 percent-per-month late-payment fee. The comptroller’s office estimates the state will pay $900 million in late fees on the existing debt. The state comptroller’s office and the governor’s office have argued over the deficit and the backlog of bills When adding in the state’s pension obligations, Illinois has $200 billion in total liabilities.

California Democrats Look For Primary Challenger

Oct 11, 2017

California Representative Ro Khanna is urging Democrats to primary Dianne Feinstein. Feinstein announced on Monday that she would seek a fifth term in the Senate. Khanna recognized Feinstein’s “lifetime of public service,” but indicated that she is not sufficiently progressive on issues of privacy and single payer healthcare. Neither has “She . . . been a strong advocate on privacy, she hasn’t been strong on civil liberties, she hasn’t been strong in terms of standing up to our foreign policy interventions around the world.” The congressman has urged Representative Barbara Lee to run as well as former Labor Secretary Robert Reich to run. At 84, Feinstein is the longest serving Democrat in the Senate. In a recent poll, less than half of registered voters thought Feinstein should run for a fifth term. Feinstein said, “I’m ready for a good fight. I’ve got things to fight for. I’m in a position where I can be effective, and hopefully, that means something to California.”

Twitter Backs Down On Ad Ban

Oct 11, 2017

Twitter backed down on its opposition to Representative Marsh Blackburn’s video advertisement which celebrated the stopping of Planned Parenthood from selling fetal body parts. Twitter issued a statement saying in party, “After further review, we have made the decision to allow the content in question from Rep. Blackburn’s campaign ad to be promoted on our ads platform.” “While we initially determined that a small portion of the video used potentially inflammatory language, after reconsidering the ad in the context of the entire message, we believe that there is room to refine our policies around these issues.” Twitter objected to the phrase “stopped the sale of baby body parts.” The campaign was told that it would have to remove the offending phrase if it wanted to promote the video as an ad. Blackburn’s campaign said that it was glad that Twitter had reconsidered its ban and said, “It’s a real shame that this censorship happened in the first place.” Twitter has no problem accepting ads from Planned Parenthood, a company that profits from the dismemberment of unborn children.

British MP Urges Germany To Settle Polish Repparations

Oct 11, 2017

A member of the British Parliament came out in support of Germany paying reparations to Poland for the destruction Germany caused during World War II. Daniel Kawczynski issued a letter to German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He wrote, “Germany rightly refers to our obligations to the EU financially as we exit the structure, and yet conveniently ignored their own much clearer obligations to Poland for the destruction and misery they caused.” “Germany has to be held to account as she is dictating to others whilst refusing to take responsibility herself.” Poland agreed to waive the right to reparations in 1953 while it was occupied by the Soviet Union. Germany believes the agreement is binding. Poland believes the agreement was invalid because the communist government was not a “just and sovereign ruler of the Polish people.” Poland has fought all efforts to have Islamic immigrants be forcibly resettled in its country. Germany and the EU have “increasingly sought to intervene in Polish affairs.” The reparations issue has been resurrected in light of Germany’s interference.

Lowering the Tension in Catalan

Oct 11, 2017

The president of Spain’s Catalan region took a different tactic on Tuesday. He “called on parliament to suspend the effects of the results of the October 1st referendum to allow for ‘mediation and dialogue’ with the Spanish national government.” By asking for dialogue, the president of Catalan brings down the level of animosity and tension. “We are all responsible for this. We need [to] de-escalate the situation, not fee it any longer. I want to address everyone about the issue.” The president emphasized that he has a “mandate for independence” that he’s chosen to set aside for the moment. Spain’s Prime Minister Rajoy has threatened to “suspend the region’s autonomy” as well as kill the Catalan president. During the time of Franco, Catalan was stripped of its autonomy and the Spanish government tried to “stamp out their language.” Franco’s government also tried to settle “hundreds of thousands of outsiders in the region to try and dilute its sense of national identity.” In 2014 Catalans approved a referendum “establishing an independent republic.” Spain, backed by the EU, refused to recognize the results.

Officer Fired For Arresting Nurse

Oct 11, 2017

Police Detective Jeff Payne was fired on Tuesday. He was caught on video dragging a nurse out of the hospital for not letting him take a blood draw “from an unconscious patient.” The nurse was complying with the rules that the hospital and the police department had agreed to ahead of time. Detective Payne did not have a warrant, the consent of the patient, and had not arrested the patient. Even though the officer could have gotten a warrant he chose to arrest the nurse. He dragged her out of the hospital and put her in a police vehicle. After the incident, the hospital banned law enforcement agents from dealing directly with nurses. A few weeks later, Payne was fired from his second job as a paramedic because he’d threatened to bring every homeless person he could find to the University of Utah Medical Center as revenge for the bad publicity he’d received. After weeks of investigation, police chief Mike Brown fired Detective Payne.

Senate Proceeding At Snail’s Pace

Oct 11, 2017

The Senate is progressing at a snail’s pace in getting President Trump’s nominees to the federal judiciary confirmed. Currently there are 149 vacancies. The president has “named 50 judicial nominees since taking office. . . “ The Senate has confirmed a whopping seven nominees.” Senator Mitch McConnell said the Senate has never had to deal with so many “nominees at this early stage of a presidency in modern history.” Conservative think tanks have been complaining to senators about the slow pace of confirmations, “fearing the dispirited Republican Senatecaucus will forfeit an unprecedented opportunity to reshape the federal courts.” McConnell has indicated that he is interested in making some changes to the archaic system of confirmation such as doing away with blue slips. The convention allows home state senators to hold up hearings if they don’t return the slips. Currently there are nearly 12 “unfilled appellate vacancies arising from states with at least one Democratic senator.”

Obama Library To Go Paperless

Oct 11, 2017

The Obama Presidential Library will create an online archive of its documents instead of a “traditional paper archive.” The library won’t have to “pay fees to the National Archives and Records Administration for management of the library.” The center will have “basketball courts, a recording studio, meeting rooms, an auditorium, a children’s play garden, [and] an exhibition hall . . . “ But it will not have historical documents. Peggy Glowacki, a manuscripts librarian, is skeptical of how the library will work. “I think, in this case, it’s such a massive amount of material that it will be important to see how they are able to deliver it and make it easy to search.” The Obama library will open in 2021. It is expected to cost $500 million. The library will destroy access to Cornell Drive, a road that is “used each day by thousands of drivers.” Reaction to the architectural sketches of the center have not been kind. It’s been called “soul-crushing,” a “monstrosity,” a “concrete Rubik’s Cube ready to tumble over on its side at any moment.”

U.S. Navy Sends Destroyer Into Disputed Waters

Oct 11, 2017

The U.S. Navy sent a destroyer into the South China Sean on Tuesday to sail near the islands that are claimed by China. The action was a Freedom of Navigation exercise that challenged “excessive maritime claims” made by China. The Navy intends to continue these exercises because the American government does not recognize China’s territorial claims. “The U.S. military has a long-standing position that its operations are carried out throughout the world, including in areas claimed by allies, and that they are separate from political considerations.” While continuing to conduct the navigation exercises, the United States is also seeking help from China to contain North Korea’s nuclear ambitions. In the past, China has argued that the Navy’s actions, “harmed Chinese sovereignty and security.” It may be in China’s interest to keep North Korea in play so as to continue to irritate the United States. President Trump plans to visit several countries in Asia in November including China.

Companies Panic Because Millennials Don’t Understand Their Products

Oct 11, 2017

Home Depot executives are in a panic. It seems that millennials have no idea how to use the products that the company sells. Home Depot has spent millions of dollars creating video tutorials and in store classes on how to do “everything from using a tape measure to mopping a floor and hammering a nail.” And lest anyone think these videos are “too condescending” towards “our pampered millennials” these videos are “based on high-frequency online search queries.” This is not just a home improvement industry issue. Scotts Miracle-Gro Company has found it necessary to create video instructions on how very basic gardening tips such as “making sure sunlight can reach plants.” “These are simple things we wouldn’t have really thought to do or needed to do 15 to 20 years ago. But this is a group who may not have grown up putting their hands in the dirt growing their vegetable garden in mom and dad’s backyard,” said Jim King a vice president with Scotts. Millennials represent the largest demographic in America.

Investigation Into Imran Awn Heats Up

Oct 11, 2017

The investigation into the former IT aide to Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz continues to turn up disturbing issues. Representative Scott Perry said that Imran Awan made “massive” data transfers off of government computers. The Republican representative called Awan’s actions “a substantial security threat.” Investigators had been watching IT aides for House Democrats for months. There were concerns of double-billing, equipment theft, and access to important computer systems. Investigators found 5,700 logins to one computer server. 5,400 of which appear to be unauthorized. Currently Awan is charged with conspiracy to “obtain home equity lines of credit . . . by giving false information about two properties — and then sending the proceeds to individuals in Pakistan.” Representative Wassermann Schultz says that the focus on Awan is meant to distract from the Russian meddling.

Timeline Changes in Vegas Shooting

Oct 10, 2017

The timeline presented by the las Vegas authorities of the shooting by Stephen Paddock that resulted in 58 deaths and hundreds of injuries has suddenly changed dramatically. A Mandalay Bay security guard who was shot and wounded while in the hallway outside the shooters room was originally reported to have occurred during the time that he was firing on the crowd of concert goers. Now it is being reported that Jesus Campos was actually shot prior to the rampage starting. This raises serious questions about whether he reported the incident to hotel security and whether it was then reported to police who were trying to determine where the gunfire was coming from.

Iran Makes Direct Threats Against U.S.

Oct 10, 2017

The radical Islamic dictatorship in Iran is directly threatening retaliation against the United States if President Trump declares its elite Revolutionary Guards to be a terrorist organization. Iran has promised a “crushing response” against the U.S. if that happens. Many of the groups affiliated with the guard have already been designated as terrorist groups and Iran is widely recognized as the most prominent state sponsor of terrorism.

Trump is also expected to decertify Iran’s compliance with the nuclear treaty signed illegally by President Obama without submitting to be ratified by the Senate as required by the Constitution.

Texas Mother Appalled at Sentence for Illegal who Killed her Children

Oct 10, 2017

Courtney Hacking lost her husband and her two youngest children when an illegal alien driving without a license slammed into their car on a Texas highway. The driver of the other vehicle was Margarito Ouintero-Rosales who entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to only two years in prison for killing three people.Mrs. Hacking was appalled and pointed out that Rosales had already committed one crime by entering the country illegally.

Her husband was a legal immigrant from England and the two children were 4 year old Ellie and 22 month old Grayson. She does not believe they received justice by this sentence.

Liberals United in Silence about Weinstein Scandal

Oct 10, 2017

Even after the board of directors of the company he founded fired him the elitists in the Democrat party and Hollywood remained mostly silent about the Harvey Weinstein sexual scandal, despite the overwhelming evidence that this had gone on for years. Only one notable actress raised her voice in condemnation and that was Meryl Streep. Weinstein was a powerful mogul for years in the movie industry and a heavy contributor to liberal candidates and causes. That is probably the reason there has not been a word said about this by the Obamas or Clintons. Activist Hollywood types Ben and Casey Affleck said nothing, and neither did Gwyneth Paltrow and Glenn Close. Pundits are calling this another example of liberal hypocrisy.

Twitter Now Censoring Conservative Campaign Ads

Oct 10, 2017

There is no question that the major social media sites are controlled by the left and are used to promote various liberal causes. Now they are trying to make sure that the social media platforms are not level playing fields; at least not when it comes to conservatives and republicans. Representative Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee is running for the Senate seat being vacated by the retirement of Bob Corker.

She recently posted the announcement of her campaign on Twitter and pointed out her strong pro-life credentials including her strong stance against Planned Parenthood selling the body parts of aborted babies. Twitter blocked her video because they said the pro-life statements were inflammatory and might offend someone. This is a direct slap at the First Amendment.

Cowboys Owner Puts His Players on Notice

Oct 10, 2017

The owner of the Dallas Cowboys football team, Jerry Jones, has sometimes been criticized for being too “hands on” with this team and coaches. However, the action he has recently taken has been praised by fans. He told his players and coaches that if they disrespected the flag and national anthem by kneeling they would lose their jobs.

This action caused liberal ESPN commentator Jemele Hill, who couldn’t contain herself from going on the attack, calling on people to boycott Cowboys sponsors to punish Jones for standing up for America. She had previously come under fire for calling Trump a “white supremacist.” ESPN let her get by with that, but suspended her for two weeks for this comment.

Obama Coal Regulations being Scrapped

Oct 10, 2017

The administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Scott Pruitt has determined after a month’s long investigation ordered by President Trump that the regulations imposed on the coal industry by Obama need to go. The so called Clean Power Plan was issued by Obama without the approval of Congress which made it unconstitutional on its face.

That is why the U.S. Supreme Court put a hold on enforcement of the plan over a year ago. The whole purpose of the exercise by Obama was to fulfill his campaign promise of putting the coal industry out of business and costing thousands of American jobs, in the name of climate change. All of that is now being reversed.

Massive Wildfires Hitting California Wine Country

Oct 10, 2017

California firefighters are battling several rapidly moving wildfires that are devastating large areas of wine country in the Napa Valley and Sonoma and Mendocino counties. The fires have already destroyed over 1,500 structures including homes and businesses, and caused several hospitals to be evacuated in the area.

High winds and temperatures are hampering efforts to control the fires and multiple deaths are already being reported. There are currently 14 separate fires being fought in eight Northern California counties. At this point it is unclear how this effects the wine production that is a staple of the area economy.

Senator Urges National Security Team to Get On Board

Oct 10, 2017

Senator Tom Cotton argued on Monday that the president’s national security team needs to get on board with the plan to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal or find other work. Cotton was interviews for The Global Politico. He said that the job of Mattis and Tillerson “is now to move out and execute.” The senator praised President Trump’s foreign policy saying, “In almost every area, in his own way, with his own rhetoric, he has reasserted American leadership, and he’s willing to confront threats before they gather.” Senator Cotton said that cabinet members and senior advisors “should help [the president] achieve his objectives and run with his thinking” when the president is right. When he’s wrong, “you have a duty to try to present to him the best facts and the best thinking to help him see it in a different light.” “Maybe you can, but if he doesn’t, and he says, ‘No, I want to do it my way,’ then your job is to move out and execute. And if you feel strongly enough, then you have to resign,” Cotton said. The expectation is that President Trump will not recertify to Congress that Iran is in compliance with the nuclear deal. If negotiations fail, then Congress would be able to impose new sanctions on Iran.

Fires Raging In California

Oct 10, 2017

Multiple fires broke out in northern California Sunday night. Wildfires swept through California’s wine country killing at least 10 people and “destroying 1,500 homes and businesses.” Thousands of residents fled to escape the fires. “We live in the valley, where it’s concrete and strip malls and hotels and supermarkets,” said Jeff Okrepkie. “The last thing you think is a forest fire is going to come and wipe us out.” A home for the disabled had to be evacuated as fires closed in on the property. 200 patients were evacuated as fire “closed within a few dozen feet.” Fourteen fires burned “over a 200-mile region north of San Francisco from Napa in the south to Redding in the north.” At least five wineries have been destroyed and nearly 70,000 acres have burned so far. Currently there are 25 major fires burning in the state. The heavy rains in California earlier in the year “kicked off a massive spring bloom of scrub brush, grasses and wild flowers, all of which provided fuel for the fires.”

She’s “All In”

Oct 10, 2017

Senator Dianne Feinstein said that she’s running for a fifth term. “I am running for re-election to the Senate. Lots more to do: ending gun violence, combating climate change, access to healthcare. I’m all in!” Feinstein announced on Twitter. At 84, Feinstein is the oldest serving member in the Senate. She’ll be 91 if she finishes a fifth term. In her corresponding announcement on Facebook, Feinstein added that she wants to give “DREAMers the chance to stay in the United States.” In a recent poll, “less than half of registered California voters thought Feinstein should run for re-election.” Feinstein has come under criticism recently for not being radical enough in her opposition to President Trump. Los Angeles Mayor Garrett will be hosting a fundraiser for the senator. He said that America needs “her seniority and her experience no, more than ever.” He added, “Senator Feinstein wis not just principled, she is powerful.”

Did Corker Decide Not To Run Because of FBI Investigation?

Oct 10, 2017

Tennessee Republican Senator Bob Corker will not stand for re-election in 2018. One compelling factor in his decision may be due to an FBI investigation into several business enterprises where he stood to personally profit. The FBI reportedly is investigating Senator Corker’s “dozens of lucrative stock trades over a period of several years, collectively worth tens of millions of dollars.” As chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he has received non-public information about the economic issues in many countries. In a span of 3 months in 2014 he invested in 29 companies, made 92 trades that were worth $945,000. Federal investigators are looking into whether the trades were based on insider information. Corker raised suspicions in 2015 when the Wall Street Journal reported on ten years worth of contradictions and omissions in Corker’s personal financial disclosures. Corker later amended his disclosures. But they “revealed millions of dollars in previously undeclared assets.” Senator Corker’s political career is dotted with examples of using “public office for his own personal benefit.”

Republicans Claim Attempt To Repeal Obamacare Still Alive

Oct 10, 2017

Republicans in the Senate are still working to repeal Obamacare according to a group of Republican senators who co-sponsored the most recent attempt to overturn Obamacare. Senator Ron Johnson said that the effort to repeal is still ‘alive and well.” “I wouldn’t say it collapsed. It’s still alive and well, but we need more time.” Senator Lindsey Graham said that Democrats have supported block grants for welfare in the past. Graham pointed out that even John Kasich talked about entitlement reform when he was chairman of the House budget committee. Kasich came out against block grants from being issued to the states “to handle their own health care spending.” But he’d previously supported something like that when he served in Congress in 1995. Senator Cassidy said that Republican’s “block grant proposal was better than the one in 1995.” Cassidy went on to say, “I have every confidence that if this comes back up again, which I think it will — that as folks become more familiar with it, folks like John Kasich will say it’s a good idea.”

Catalan To Declare Independence on Tuesday

Oct 10, 2017

The president of the Catalan region in Spain expects to declare some form of independence from Spain on Tuesday. After the vote, the president of Catalan said, “My government, in the next few days will send the results of today’s vote to the Catalan parliament, where the sovereignty of our people lies, so that it can act in accordance with the law of the referendum.” Catalans voted for independence on October 1. The election was marred by violence as Spanish government authorities beat voters in an effort to dissuade them from voting. Spanish Prime Minister Rajoy declared, ‘Spain will not be divided and the national unity will be preserved. We will do everything that legislation allows us to ensure this. We will prevent this independence from taking place.” Spain’s deputy prime minister said, “if they declare independence, there will be decisions to restore the law and democracy.” The French government said that it will not recognize and independent Catalan. The Catalan region would also not have any place within the European Union if it follows through on its decision to separate from Spain. Catalan’s economy is 20 percent of Spain’s national economy and accounts for a quarter of Spain’s exports. Taxpayers in the region also pay 21 percent of the nation’s taxes.

EPA Pulls Out of Clean Power Plan

Oct 10, 2017

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt will repeal former President Obama’s plan to fight global warming. Pruitt spoke at a mining event and announced his decision to withdraw from the Clean Power Plan (CPP). The CPP was finalized in 2015. It’s goal was to “cut carbon dioxide emissions from power plants 32 percent below 2005 levels by 2030.” The CPP was designed to meet the goals of the Paris climate accord. But the rule never was implemented because the U.S. Supreme Court issued a stay in 2016. The government hopes to save $33 billion by not repealing the rule. The Obama administration low balled the cost of the CPP saying that it would cost $8.4 billion and deliver benefits “ranging from $14 to #34 billion by 2030.” Currently there are no plans by the EPA to replace the Clean Power Plan.

Federal Investigation Into Puerto Rican Aid Distribution

Oct 10, 2017

A federal prosecutor will look into allegations that some Puerto Rican officials “did not deliver hurricane relief to the island’s residents.” Governor Rosello requested the investigation after hearing “that FEMA supplies to some mayors were not reaching Puerto Rican residents.” US Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodriguez was interviewed on a local radio station. During the show she said, “This morning we received information from a town on the Island where a person close to the municipal administration was asking one of our federal agents that the supplies that were there could not be touched because they were for his mayor.” Another allegation is that a government official “was hoarding supplies for residents ‘who had voted for that person.’” Currently the U.S. military is in charge of distributing relief and supplies to residents on the island. Rodriguez made it clear, “This is not the time to do politics … this is the time to help and to be kind to others. This is a tragedy and nobody should take advantage of the aid.”

Twitter Circles The Wagons Around Planned Parenthood

Oct 10, 2017

Representative Marsha Blackburn is running for Senate in Tennessee. Last week she posted a video announcing her candidacy. In the video she said that she is 100 percent pro-life and pointed out how she’d helped to stop the sale of unborn children’s body parts. Twitter declared that Blackburn’s pro-life comment was “inflammatory” and blocked the campaign announcement ad from being promoted. A representative from the company said the statement “is likely to evoke a strong negative reaction.” Twitter said the ad could be reposted as a promoted ad if the “flagged statement” was removed. Blackburn instead asked her followers to share the video. She said, “Silicon Valley should not be allowed to impose their values on us. Join me in standing up to the liberal elite.” The pro-life organization Live Action reported months ago that Twitter had blocked its ads from being promoted “unless it deleted tweets critical of Planned Parenthood.”

South Korea Creates Graphite Bomb

Oct 10, 2017

South Korea reportedly has developed a new bomb designed to take out North Korea’s entire power grid. The weapon is called a graphite bomb also known as a “blackout bomb.” These were first used by the U.S. in the 1990 Gulf War against Iraq. The weapon releases a “cloud of extremely fine, chemically treated carbon filaments over electrical components. The filaments are so fine that they act like a cloud, but cause short circuits in electrical equipment.” South Korea’s government announced that it has secured “all technologies for the development of a graphite bomb . . . “ “it is in the stage where we can build the bombs anytime,” according to a South Korean military official. The bomb was developed as a part of South Korea’s “three pillars” plan for retaliation against North Korea. The first part of the plan involves detecting and intercepting North Korean missiles. The second part involves “launching attacks against the country’s leadership.” The North Korean regime uses holidays to showcase its strength. It is expected that the government will do something on October 10 to celebrate the founding of the nation’s communist party.

US Plans Military Exercises Off Korean Peninsula

Oct 10, 2017

The United States and South Korea will be partnering for another round of military exercises in the Pacific in the waters off the Korean peninsula. The Pentagon dispatched the USS Michigan to South Korea. The nuclear powered submarine is expected to arrive by the end of the week. The American aircraft carrier, the USS Ronald Reagan will participate as well. North Korea will be celebrating the “founding of the country’s ruling Communist Party” on Tuesday. Officials in South Korea and the Pentagon believe that North Korea could launch another round of missiles as early as Tuesday to mark the celebration. The USS Ronald Reagan has been in Korean waters since September after North Korea fired missiles over Japan. On Monday, Secretary of Defense Mattis said that the U.S. is working through diplomacy and economic pressure to encourage North Korea to halt its nuclear weapons program. He said that soldiers must be ready to fight if negotiations fail.

Movie Mogul Harvey Weinstein is big Democrat Donor

Oct 9, 2017

Prominent movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has had to resign after numerous stories emerged of his sexual harassment of women over many years. The evidence is overwhelming of the accuracy of these claims. However, it is now turning out that the New York Times was aware of many of these accusations as long ago as 2004 and killed the story apparently because Weinstein was a heavy contributor to the Democrat party and its candidates.

The protection continues to some extent since Saturday Night Live had a joke prepared on Weinstein after the story broke but killed it, because they said it was a “New York thing”. In other words Weinstein has been protected for years by the liberal news media, the Democrats, and the Hollywood elite.

ANTIFA Calls for Attacks on Columbus Day

Oct 9, 2017

The violent leftist group that calls itself ANTIFA has called for its followers to deface statues and monuments to explorer Christopher Columbus. This is to be done today, the date of the federal holiday dedicated to him. Police departments in cities around the country like New York City are dispatching extra officers to protect the monuments.

This type of activity appears to be typical of ANTIFA. Its members love to attack inanimate objects that can’t fight back just like they like to wear masks and helmets, and carry shields and various weapons that they can use when they conduct attacks in packs on single unarmed counter protestors who disagree with them.

Fast Moving Tropical Storm Nate Heads Northeast

Oct 9, 2017

After coming ashore on the Mississippi and Alabama Gulf coast as a category 2 hurricane Nate moved swiftly north and then northeast. The storm in the fourth to hit the U.S. this season and was not as strong as the previous three that devastated Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. However, Nate did do some wind and flood damage including knocking out power to at least 100,000 people in Mississippi.

Fortunately, the storm is moving rapidly and lost power and will not be producing the torrential rains its slow moving predecessors did. Hurricane season officially ends on November 1st.

ISIS May be Falling Apart

Oct 9, 2017

The vicious ISIs fighters who are so willing to slaughter unarmed civilians for the Islamic cause are suddenly turning out not to so willing to be martyrs. Many seem to be unwilling to “fight to the death” which is part of their vow when they enlist in the “invincible” army of Islam. However, is recent weeks they have been surrendering en masse to the Iraqis, Syrian, and even Kurdish soldiers who with the support of U.S. and other coalition troops have taken one stronghold after another. After the fall of the ISIS held city of Mosul the tide turned in other locations like Tal Afar fell in only nine days and 500 ISIS fighters surrendered. Following that defeat the major location in Hawija was taken in fifteen days and 1,000 ISIS fighters surrendered rather meekly.

Hepatitis A reaching epidemic proportions in California

Oct 9, 2017

What started as just a few isolated cases of the liver disease hepatitis A in the homeless community in San Diego has now spread to other homeless areas as far north as Sacramento. Almost 600 cases have been reported and there have been seventeen deaths. The disease can be highly contagious, particularly among people who don’t have access to adequate sanitation.

This has become a major problem in San Diego where many homeless were displaced away from the major tourist area near the baseball park where the July major league All-star game was held. California has 21 percent of the entire homeless population in the United States, primarily because liberals in the state prohibit local authorities from doing anything significant about homelessness.

Kim Jong Un Praises Nuclear Program

Oct 9, 2017

According to brutal North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un the country’s nuclear program is moving swiftly and is providing a deterrent against the United States efforts to destroy the sovereignty of his nation. This comes amid reports that the North is preparing to test a ballistic missile that can directly threaten the U.S. mainland.

Jong Un also claims that the development of the weapons program has contributed to the growth of the North Korean economy that he claims is doing fine despite the sanctions placed on the country by the United Nations. However, reports continue that many people in the country are on the brink of starvation.

Pence Walks Out on NFL

Oct 9, 2017

Vice President Mike Pence has had enough. He and his wife, Karen, left yesterday’s NFL game between the Indianapolis Colts and the San Francisco 49rs after about 20 members of the 49ers team took a knee during the national anthem. Pence has been a Colts fan for many years, but sent out a statement that he will not attend any game where there are actions that disrespect our military, our flag, and our national anthem.

It is certainly not alone since a recent poll shows that the NFL is the least liked sport in the country. Its favorability rating has dropped 31% since August and ticket sales and TV ratings continue to plummet.

Trump in No Hurry to Move Embassy to Jerusalem

Oct 9, 2017

President Trump does not plan to move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem anytime soon. He told former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee that he will do it after he’s tried to broker a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians. During the campaign, candidate Trump told the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, “We will move the American embassy to the eternal capital of the Jewish people, Jerusalem. And we will send a clear signal that there is no daylight between America and our most reliable ally, the state of Israel.” The president said that the idea for peace that his administration is working on may not work. “Most people say it’s an impossible deal. I don’t think it is impossible, and I think it’s something that can happen.” He said that he’ll make a decision on moving the embassy after the peace agreement has had a chance to be agreed to. Moving the embassy to Israel’s capital would be an affirmation of Israel’s sovereignty in Jerusalem. Conventional wisdom is that this would hurt the chances for a peace deal.

ICE Plans Immigration Arrests

Oct 9, 2017

Immigration and Customs enforcement promised to begin carrying out immigration raids in California neighborhoods and businesses in spite of the states new legislation protecting illegal aliens. “ICE will also likely have to detain individuals arrested in California in detention facilities outside of the state, far from any family they may have in California.” Governor Jerry Brown signed legislation last week turning California into a sanctuary state. Law enforcement won’t be able to ask about immigration status after January 1, 2018. Also, California law enforcement agents won’t be able to comply with ICE immigration detainers. ICE and Homeland Security are federal agencies and California’s laws do not prevent them from continuing to operate in California. The Department of Homeland Security said, “We will continue to do our sworn duty to seek out dangerous criminal aliens and other immigration violators.” The department went on to say that California’s new immigration laws are “misguided.”

DREAM Act is Open Ended Amnesty

Oct 9, 2017

Senator Richard Durbin admitted that the Dream Act is not limited to 780,000 people in the DACA population but that it is completely open ended. The Migration Policy Institute estimates that under the Dream Act, “3.3 million illegal aliens would be eligible to obtain amnesty . . . “ Durbin said that Republicans were “exaggerating the size of the amnesty and the number of people who would later arrive via chain migration.” “So some of the speculation about the numbers is real pretty far faced, and I don’t buy the two million, three million [estimates]. I don’t know where those numbers came from.” If the beneficiaries and the subsequent people coming into the U.S. through chain migration get the right to vote, “millions of lower-skilled, government-dependent legal immigrants” would be voting in 2028 and 2032. Large business is pushing for immigration so as to maintain a pool of people who will work for low wages.

Hillary Clinton Pushes Her Book in London

Oct 9, 2017

Hillary Clinton is on the road promoting her new book. Currently she is in London. During an interview with The Sunday Times, she made it clear that she did not bear any fault for having lost. She blamed her loss on alleged Russian influence, the email scandal, and other factors. While in London, Mrs. Clinton chimed in on Britain’s decision to leave the European Union. She said that Brexit supporters believed a “horrible lie” and voted against “modern Britain” “believing that somehow this would be good for their small village.” Mrs. Clinton said that the vote “made no sense.” She said, “Brexit should have been a bigger alarm than it was.” She added, “It was some of the same people working for Trump, advocating for him.” Clinton singled out Nigel Farage. “He came to the U.S. to campaign for Trump and spent half of his remarks insulting me in a very personal way and talking about Trump as the alpha male, the silver-backed gorilla.” Farage mocked Mrs. Clinton’s excuse making saying, “and none of it’s her fault… in fact, she has never, ever got anything wrong in her entire life.”

Detroit Firefighter Fired Over Watermelon

Oct 9, 2017

A Detroit firefighter began his first day of work at the fire station by bringing a welcome gift and was then fired. Second Battalion Chief Shawn McCarty said that the welcome gifts are “a tradition” at the fire house. “It’s not mandatory, it’s voluntary. You come in bearing gifts. The usual gift is doughnuts, but you are allowed to bring whatever you want to bring in.” Robert Pattison was a probationary firefighter. He brought a “watermelon with a pink bow on top.” The act immediately offended several of the black firefighters. Some called the watermelon “racially insensitive.” 90 percent of Engine 55’s firefighters are black. Pattison said that he had no intention of offending his fellow firefighters. After an investigation, “it was determined that the best course of action was to terminate the employment of this probationary employee,” said Fire Commissioner Eric Jones.

Uber Drivers Turn Up the Heat On London Regulators

Oct 9, 2017

Last week Transport for London, the city’s regulator for taxis, denied Uber a right to operate its ride sharing business, saying that the company was not “fit and proper.” The regulator said that Uber was “flooding the car-for-hire market with incompetent and dangerous drivers.” Many of London’s Uber drivers are responding by accusing Transport for London as being racist. Many drivers for London’s black cabs are White, native-born Britons.” Uber’s London drivers are mainly “nonwhite, and many of them are immigrants.” “All these people say they’re championing the working class but what they really mean is they’re championing the white working class,” said James Farrar, a former Uber driver. Uber’s CEO was in London to meet with the Mayor of London’s office to get the license re-instated. Uber is allowed to continue operating while it appeals London for Transport’s decision. Thousands of people stand to lose their jobs if the new regulation is not overturned.
