Bernie Sanders Can Stay An Independent

Oct 21, 2017

Bernie Sanders won’t have to join the Democratic Party. Members of the Democratic National Committee “voted down a resolution demanding Senator Bernie Sanders join the party.” The resolution was introduced by three people from California and “was widely interpreted as another volley in the intra-party feud” that has engulfed the party since the election. Chairman of the resolutions committee, James Zogby said ”This puts salt in a wound that we need to be closing right now. The consequences would feed a Twitter debate that will not be helpful to any of us right now." Supporters of the resolution “argued independents working outside the party cost Democrats a number of progressive votes.” In the past, Senator Sanders has said the Democratic Party’s model is “not working.” He said that he won’t run for re-election as a Democrat in 2018.
