Elitist Bernie Sanders Flies in Luxury

Oct 19, 2017

Senator Bernie Sanders enjoys the trappings of power and wealth. In addition to his three houses, the millionaire senator “spent nearly $40,000 on luxury private jet travel during the third quarter” of 2017 Senator Sanders’ Senate campaign committee contracted with Apollo Jets. The company is “dedicated to providing a luxury flight experience based on superior safety and exceptional customer care.” The company offers jets that seat six to eight passengers as well as jumbo jets that seat 500 or “plush business class chairs for 50 or more” people. Sanders has been in the forefront of calling for a carbon tax because of global warming. In 2014, the senator said global warming is “causing devastating problems” and blamed the warming on “human activity.” In April 2016, Senator Sanders flew in a chartered Delta 767 to Rome to address a Vatican conference on “‘immoral and unsustainable’ wealth inequality.” Although his plane could seat between 211 and 261 people, fewer than 50 people were privileged enough to be on the plane with him. It is unclear how much Senator Sanders’ carbon emissions were because of his luxury jet travel.
