U.S. Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has pled guilty before a military court to charges of desertion and misbehavior in the face of the enemy. He could face a life sentence on the charges, and since the army prosecutor did not make a deal on sentencing it will up to the judge to decide punishment.
In 2009 Bergdahl deserted his post in Afghanistan and was picked up by the Taliban. Several American soldiers were killed and wounded trying to find the deserter. He was with the Taliban for five years and then President Barack Obama traded five top Taliban prisoners for Bergdahl, hailing him as a hero.
