Senator John McCain was awarded the National Constitution Center’s Liberty Medal Monday night. The medal is awarded to people who strive “to secure the blessings of liberty to people the world over. Former vice president Biden awarded the medal to McCain thanking him for his “lifetime of sacrifice and service.” Biden said, “Courage and loyalty — I can think of no better description for the man we’re honoring tonight. . . “ In accepting the award, Senator McCain said, “I’m humbled by it, and I’ll try my best to to prove too unworthy of it.” He went on to say, “I’ve been repaid a thousand times over with adventures, with good company, with the satisfaction of serving something more important than myself, of being a bit player in the extraordinary story of America. And I am so grateful.” The independent senator voted against two Republican bills that would have partially repealed portions of Obamacare. He has been an outspoken proponent of using American military might to intervene in the internal affairs of other nations.
