FBI Confirms Comey Did Draft Clinton Exoneration Months Before Ending Investigation

Oct 17, 2017

It was confirmed on Monday that former FBI Director James Comey did indeed begin to draft his exoneration statement of Hillary Clinton months before his July 2016 announcement. Comey’s actions were discovered by Senate Judiciary Chairman Grassley after reviewing a transcript. Grassley asked the FBI for verification that Comey had begun writing the document before the investigation had been completed. In the normal course of an investigation, FBI agents are trained to interview all witnesses and to complete the investigation prior to drawing any conclusions. Comey’s actions make it appear as though he’d already made up his mind not to charge Clinton with any crimes even before she’d been interviewed. But if he’d already made up his mind, then why did he take several more months to “announce the end of the investigation during a heated presidential race?”
