Hope For Bill to Outlaw Abortions After 20 Weeks

Oct 17, 2017

Senate Majority Leader McConnell said that legislation to ban abortions 20 weeks and beyond has the support of almost all his Republican members. He said that he expects to bring the bill to a vote at some point. The bill would ban abortions after five months except in cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. If the law is violated, abortion providers could face up to five years in prison. Republicans passed the same legislation in the House recently. Three Democrats crossed the aisle and voted to restrict abortion. Senator Lindsey Graham introduced the bill into the Senate. Graham said, “I don’t believe abortion, five months into pregnancy, makes us a better nation. America is at her best when she’s standing up of the least among us, and the sooner we pass this legislation into law, the better. We are on the right side of history.” Now that McConnell has announced his support for the legislation, pro-life groups are hopeful that the legislation will be passed and signed into law.
