Investigation Into Imran Awn Heats Up

Oct 11, 2017

The investigation into the former IT aide to Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz continues to turn up disturbing issues. Representative Scott Perry said that Imran Awan made “massive” data transfers off of government computers. The Republican representative called Awan’s actions “a substantial security threat.” Investigators had been watching IT aides for House Democrats for months. There were concerns of double-billing, equipment theft, and access to important computer systems. Investigators found 5,700 logins to one computer server. 5,400 of which appear to be unauthorized. Currently Awan is charged with conspiracy to “obtain home equity lines of credit . . . by giving false information about two properties — and then sending the proceeds to individuals in Pakistan.” Representative Wassermann Schultz says that the focus on Awan is meant to distract from the Russian meddling.
