President Outlines Immigration Priorities

Oct 9, 2017

The president sent a letter to Congress on Sunday outlining his administration’s “principles for reforming our Nation’s immigration system.” The letter calls “for a crackdown on border security, more resources to catch individuals residing in the country illegally, as well as a merit-based system that limits chain migration to spouses and children.” The president went on to call for the funding of a border wall saying that it would “deter human trafficking, drug trafficking and other cartels.” President Trump reversed an earlier agreement that border wall funding did not have to be tied to legislation addressing DACA. In a statement after releasing his letter, the president said, “These findings outline reforms that must be included as part of any legislation addressing the states of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients.”
