Democrats Push for Gun Control

Oct 4, 2017

Democrats in Congress are planning to push gun control legislation in the wake of the Law Vegas massacre. Democratic leaders believe they can push modest proposals such as “expanded background checks and closing loopholes.” The Democratic leadership is less supportive of pushing legislation “to restrict military-style rifles and high-capacity ammunition magazines.” Attempts to pass these in the past have failed by large margins. Senator Deanne Feinstein wants to resurrect a part of the assault weapons ban that “allows you to convert semi-automatic guns to automatic guns.” Hard left gun control activists want Congress to push bans on semi-automatic rifles, pistol grips, barrel shrouds, and high-capacity magazines. Democratic leaders are also pressuring President Trump to break with GOP lawmakers and find a “reasonable solution.” President Trump wandered into gun control territory Tuesday morning when he said, “We’ll be talking about gun laws as time goes on.” During the campaign, candidate Trump repeatedly told gun owners that he would support their Second Amendment rights.
