One Dead and Seven Injured After Immigrant Fires On Churchgoers

Sep 25, 2017

A Sudanese immigrant is responsible for the killing of one person and the wounding of seven others at a Baptist church in Antioch, Tennessee. The gunman “began indiscriminately shooting” after he entered the church. After being “confronted by a church usher” the gunman “shot himself during the struggle.” Witnesses said the gunman was wearing a clown mask when he entered the church, but police say it was a ski mask. The user, Rober Engle, was pistol-whipped, “causing ‘significant injury around his head.’” Engle went to his vehicle to retrieve a gun. He returned and held the gunman at gunpoint until police arrived. Mayor Began Barry said the shooting “is a terrible tragedy for our city. My heart aches for the family and finds of the deceased as well as for the wounded victims and their loved ones.” The shooter has been released from the hospital and is awaiting charges.
