President Inserted Inflammatory Language Into Speech

Aides to President Trump warned him not to attack North Korea’s leader personally during his first speech to the United Nations. However, the president apparently inserted inflammatory language into his speech while speaking. “Totally destroy” and “Rocket Man” were not in the original draft of the speech. During his speech the president said, “Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime. The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice by to totally destroy North Korea.” After the speech, Kim Jong Un called President Trump a “mentally deranged U.S. dotard” and said the president is a “gangster fond of playing with fire, rather than a politician.” Some advisors to the president think the heated rhetoric may derail the effort to use sanctions to bring the North Korean leader to the negotiating table.
