California Sues to Stop Wall

Sep 21, 2017

California’s attorney general filed suit in federal court in San Diego to stop the construction of California’s border wall. The attorney general is seeking to halt the wall’s construction “on the basis of federal environmental protection laws.” The suit argues that the Trump administration’s attempt to waive environmental laws are illegal. California wants extensive environmental impact studies done along with “demonstrations of compliance” with the state’s coastal commission regulations. The suit also complains that the wall would have a negative impact on tourism from Mexico. The president signed an executive order giving the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border patrol “broad authority to get the wall projects moving. The Department of Justice will ask for a motion to dismiss.
