In the past few days, protestors from groups like Black Lives Matter, ANTIFA, and the openly communist Workers World Party have intensified. At the University of Virginia so called protestors covered the statue of Thomas Jefferson in a black shroud proclaiming him a racist and a rapist.
In Baltimore the statue of Francis Scott Key, the author of our national anthem was defaced with the Star Spangled Banner being called a racist anthem. According to some on the left this is based on wording in the third stanza that states in part: “No refuge could save, hireling or slave, of terror or flight, or gloom of the grave”. Most historians agree that the use of the terms hireling and slave refer to the British use of mercenaries, and involuntary impressed men in its army and navy.
