European Commission Calls for EU Military

Sep 14, 2017

The president of the European Commission called on the European Union to create a “European Defense Union by 2025. In his State of the Union address, Jean-Claud Juncker called for the creation of a EU military saying “We need it. And NATO wants it.” The EU has “produced detailed plans for . . . an army, including a centralized headquarters and ‘permanent structured defense cooperation.’” During the lead up to Brexit, many anti-Brexit leaders “dismissed the idea of an EU army.” British politician, Nick Clegg said, “It’s not going to happen, it doesn’t matter whether Nigel Farage says it’g going to happen or Jean-Claude Junker . . . he can’t create a European army.” After the Junker’s call for a defense union, Nigel Farage said, “that was the most open, honest, and truly worrying speech I’ve heard in my long years in this place. The message is very clear: Brexit has happened — full steam ahead!”
