53 Percent of California Democrats Oppose Free Speech

Sep 14, 2017

In the aftermath of violent protests in Charlottesville and in Berkeley, 53 percent of California Democrats “believe we have gone too far in allowing those demonstrations.” The poll was conducted by UC Berkeley, home of the free speech movement. Mark DiCamillo conducted the poll and commented, “I would have thought the liberals would be defending the right to demonstrate in general.” Apparently Democrats are willing to shut down and restrict the free speech rights of people with whom they disagree. Jan Soule, president of the Silicon Valley Association of Republican Women said, “The left has always been hypocritical. They continue to say we have free speech as long as we agree with what they say. Free speech does not extend to conservatives.” The poll comes as conservative writer and speaker Ben Shapiro prepares to deliver a speech Thursday on the Berkeley campus.
