For the first time in our history the National Debt of the United States has exceeded $20 trillion. It has been hovering near that mark for the last several years of the Obama administration since in his eight years in office he almost doubled the debt and that was inherited by Donald Trump when he became president.
The debt had actually been reduced for the first few months of the Trump administration, but then Hurricane Harvey hit and the debt ceiling was temporarily eliminated by the President so that billions in relief could be provided to the people of Texas. Billions more will have to be spent following Hurricane Irma so the national debt is spiking.
