Math Teacher Fired

Sep 11, 2017

The Georgia high school math teacher who compared the slogan, “Make America Great Again” with Nazis wearing swastikas, has been fired. Lyn Orletsky asked that her students who were wearing the offending shirts to leave the classroom and turn them inside out. The school district made it clear that the students were not in violation of any dress code and were well within their rights. In a statement by the Cherokee County School District, a spokesman said, “The teacher additionally — and inappropriately — shared her personal opinion about the campaign slogan during class.” Later in the week Orletsky was let go. A letter to parents from the school principal Darrell Herring, explained “Ms. Orletsky no long is your child’s math teacher, effective immediately.” The principal explained that the school was looking for an “experience educator to teach these classes for the rest of the school year.”
