The president’s son-in-law helped Senator Dick Durbin promote DACA amnesty. Senator Durbin has long been a proponent of giving amnesty for “the younger illegals who were brought into the country as children by their illegal immigrant parents.” Jared Kushner “arranged phone calls between Durbin and then-Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly.” Durbin was disappointed that the president ended Obama administration’s DACA program but that subsequent tweets by the president gave him hope that something constructive for the Dreamers will get done. More recently, the president said that he wants Congress to solve the amnesty issue. “I’d like to see a permanent deal, and I think it’s going to happen. I think we’re going to have great support from both sides of Congress, and I really believe that Congress is going to work very hard on the DACA agreement and come up with something,” said the president.
