Lois Lerner Walks Free

Sep 9, 2017

Lois Lerner, the former IRS official, who made sure conservative groups did not get their tax exemption status will not be criminally investigated. The Department of Justice sent a letter to Congress saying, “reopening the criminal investigation would not be appropriate based on the available evidence.” Two Republican lawmakers had asked the Justice Department to reopen the case and investigate. The Obama Justice Department announced in 2015 that nobody would be prosecuted. At the time, officials “found no evidence that any IRS official acted based on political, discriminatory, corrupt or other inappropriate motives that would support a criminal prosecution.” House Ways and Means Committee chairman Kevin Brady said the Justice Department’s decision give the “green light to target Americans for their political beliefs and mislead investigators without ever being held accountable for their lawlessness.”
