Roy Moore Leading Luther Strange In Alabama Senate Race

Sep 7, 2017

The race for the Republican nomination for Alabama’s open Senate seat is tipping towards Judge Roy Moore. In a recent poll, Judge Moore has a 16-point lead. He has been picking up the endorsement of key conservatives and members of the Republican party. “Moore is very strong with Christian conservatives, and he’s very strong with Republican voters who identify as conservative or very conservative” in the most recent poll. Several weeks ago, incumbent Senator Luther Strange signed a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senator Schumer asking that the filibuster rule in the Senate be kept. But after getting heat from Judge Moore, Senator Strange withdrew his signature from the letter. The withdrawal has compounded Strange’s perception as a flip-flopper. Not helping Senator Strange is the amount of money that McConnell has poured into the race. Strange is seen as someone who is bought and paid for by McConnell and the Washington establishment. Alabama voters see Judge Moore as a supporter of President Trump’s agenda and specifically his immigration policies.
