Campus Carry Repeal Up For Vote

Sep 6, 2017

California politicians are preparing to vote on legislation that would repeal the authority of school district superintendents to allow campus carry for those with concealed carry permits. Although no crimes have been committed under the current law, Assemblyman Kevin McCarty wants to make sure government school teachers won’t be able to shoot back if attacked. Currently five school districts in California allow their teachers to carry on campus. In addition to repealing the campus carry, the legislation would also impose new restrictions on Federal Firearms License holders. It would “further restrict the open carry of an unloaded firearm on public property by including unincorporated areas as prohibited places.” Assemblyman Kevin McCarty said, “A safe learning environment is essential for our children to be successful in the classroom. That’s not possible if a school district allows armed civilians to roam California school campuses.”
