EU Gets Snipy With British Over Brexit

The European Union’s Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier is threatening to “teach the British people and others what leaving the EU means.” “There are extremely serious consequences of leaving the single market and it hasn’t been explained to the British people. We intend to teach people… what leaving the single market means,” said Barnier. Britain’s negotiator David Davis said that Barnier is merely trying to get Britain to concede to pay 100 billion euros as the price of exiting the union. “What [Barnier’s] concerned about is that he’s not getting the answer [he wants] on money and they’ve set this up to try and create pressure on us.” David said, “I’m not going to allow them to use that time pressure to force us to do x, y, or z.” The UK disagrees with the European Union’s 100 billion euro bill. The House of Lord’s EU financial affairs committee has gone so far as to say that there is no legal basis for the UK to pay any of it. “We’re going through this very systematically, very British way, very pragmatic way of doing it and of course [Barnier is] finding it difficult, which is why this stance in the press conference,” said Davis.
