Hurricane Irma Enters the Caribbean

Sep 5, 2017

Hurricane Irma is bearing down on the northeastern Caribbean. It is now a Category 4 storm. Irma is expected to to hit the northern Leewards Islands by early Wednesday morning. Antigua and Anguilla shut down their schools on Monday. Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are expecting high winds and four to eight inches of rain. If the storm shifts, the islands will get worse weather. Storm models have Florida in the storm’s path. Florida’s governor declared a state of emergency in all of the state’s 67 counties. The governor wants to give counties “ample time, resources and flexibility to get prepared” for the storm. The governor encouraged all Florida residents to prepare and monitor weather conditions.
