President Trump is preparing to end the controversial DACA program that Obama put in place by executive order. The program temporarily blocked the deportation of people who were originally brought to the country as minors by their parents who entered the U.S. illegally. They were given the opportunity to stay if they applied for work permits. The program is also referred to as the “Dreamer” program.
The constitutionality of the program has always been in doubt and ten states are preparing to file a suit to get it stopped if Trump doesn’t act. The President has also been advised by the Attorney General Jeff Sessions that Congress is responsible for immigration so Trump will defer cancelation of the program for six months to give Congress a chance to act.
