Trump Reverses Obama Waiver of Welfare Work Requirements

Sep 4, 2017

In 2012 then President Barack Obama used an executive order to allow states to waive work requirements for welfare recipients receiving money from the Federal program Temporary Assistance to Needy Families. As the name says it is designed to be a temporary program so there was incentive for people to find work. The Obama order changed the program so that people could be on it indefinitely without even having to look for a job.

The message from the Trump administration is clear. If you want to receive temporary assistance from the government you must be actively seeking work. This encourages families to become self-sustaining, and economically independent once again.
