President To End DACA

Sep 4, 2017

President Trump will end DACA on Tuesday, though with a six month delay of enforcement. President Obama created the program to give illegal immigrants who were brought into the country as minors a way to obtain work permits. Nearly 800,000 people have received permits under the program. President Trump consulted with his Attorney General Jeff Session before deciding to end the program. Sessions reportedly told the president that Congress is responsible for the country’s immigration laws Speaker Ryan and many fellow Republicans support allowing so called Dreamers to remain in the United States. The six month delay would give Congress the time needed to write legislation and pass it before DACA’s protections expire.
