Putin Warns of War

Russian President Vladimir Putin warned of conflict between North Korea and the United States. “It is essential to resolve the region’s problems through direct dialogue involving all sides without advancing any preconditions,” wrote Putin. “Provocations, pressure, and bellicose and offensive rhetoric is the road to nowhere.” Putin went on to warn that the region was “balanced on the verge of a large-scale conflict.” According to U.S. intelligence agencies, North Korea is preparing for a sixth nuclear test. Last week North Korea fired a missile over Japan towards Guam before breaking up in the ocean. Two days after North Korea’s show of force, the United States and South Korea conducted a mock bombing run by flying stealth fighters and two B-1B bombers over the Korean Peninsula. Putin wrote, “In Russia’s opinion the calculation that it is possible to halt North Korea’s nuclear missile programs exclusively by putting pressure on Pyongyang is erroneous and futile.”
