Governor Scott Walker Gets Behind Obamacare Repeal Effort

Aug 31, 2017

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is throwing his support behind the latest effort to repeal Obamacare. The new proposal would take healthcare out of the hands of federal bureaucrats and put it into the hands of states in the form of block grants. Senators Graham and Cassidy plan to introduce the legislation when Congress returns from its vacation in early September. Under the proposed legislation, each state would be able to innovate and craft their own solutions to healthcare. Governor Walker is planning to rally his other Republican governors behindthe effort to block grant healthcare to the states. According to Gov. Walker there are many Republican governors “who think sending more responsibilities and resources back to the states is directly what our founders intended in the Constitution.” The support and buy in of governors is thought to be crucial the bill’s passage. Governors can influence and persuade senators and representatives to support the bill. Governor Walker believes passage of the bill would get the support of voters and be a boon “for the GOP in next year’s midterm elections.”
