Obamacare Repeal Effort Gaining Supporters

Rick Santorum’s plan to replace Obamacare with block grants to the states may be getting enough support from senators and representatives to actually pass through Congress. Senator Lindsey Graham said of the bill, “This is truly and fundamentally a different approach than Obamacare. It relies upon the concept of federalism.” He added, “We’re going to block grant the health care to the states.” In previous attempts to repeal Obamacare, Congress retained much of the infrastructure of the failing healthcare plan in place. The legislation merely trimmed around the edges but nothing fundamentally changed. By block granting to the states, each state would be able to create its own healthcare solution. States could create their own employer and individual mandates or not. States could create single-payer plans but no entity would be able to impose that on the other 49 states. States could borrow ideas from each other. Senator Graham thought that the key to getting repeal legislation through Congress is to have the support of governors.
