Houston Mayor Defends his Decision not to Order Evacuation

Aug 28, 2017

Democrat Mayor Sylvester Turner has defended his decision not to order the evacuation of Houston in the face of the predictions of horrendous flooding as a result of Hurricane Harvey. Although he was not in a position to order the evacuation, Republican Governor Greg Abbott strongly encouraged it, but was contradicted by Turner.

Now, multiple assets are being deployed to save people in areas that had been predictably vulnerable to flooding as a result of the heavy rainfall that was caused by the storm. Turner said it was more risky to put several million people on the roads than to tell everyone to stay in their homes where many are now trapped.
