Venezuela Continues Crackdown on Opposition

Aug 11, 2017

Nicolas Maduro, dictatorial leader of Venezuela, is speeding up on his crackdown on anyone opposed to his regime. Many opposition mayors are under investigation by the government, several have been arrested, and at least two sentenced to jail. The legally elected National Assembly that is controlled by members of the opposition party has been dissolved, and replaced by the Constituent Assembly that is made up totally of Maduro supporters.

Anyone in the opposition parties that wants to run in any upcoming election must get a certificate of “good conduct” from the Constituent Assembly or be barred from running.
