Pentagon Preparing to Strike ISIS in the Philippines

Aug 8, 2017

The growth of ISIS on some of the southern islands in the Philippines has been going on for several years and now has become a threat not only to the Philippines, but to other countries in the region. The Philippine military has launched a major campaign against ISIS that controls many towns mostly by imposing strict sharia law and terrorizing local populations.

Now, the Pentagon is preparing plans to launch air strikes against ISIS in support of the Philippine army. The strikes will use drones initially and be directed at known ISIS positions and strongholds. There is also a small force of American special operations personnel already on the ground in the islands.
