UN Says United States Cannot Withdraw from Climate Agreement

Aug 8, 2017

When Barack Obama illegally signed the United Nations Climate Change treaty he assured everyone that the agreement was non-binding. In fact, that was his primary justification for refusing to submit the treaty to the Senate for ratification as required by the U.S. Constitution. It turns out that Obama failed to mention that he had signed away the right of the U.S. to withdraw from the treaty until November 2020.

President Trump was informed of this when he sent formal notice to the UN of our withdrawal. The United Nations pointed to the language and told Trump he can’t do it. However, since it can be argued that the treaty was never legally signed, the additional agreement can also be ignored.
