United Nations Imposed New Sanctions on North Korea

Aug 7, 2017

In what some people see as a bit of a surprise, all fifteen countries in the United Nations Security Council voted to impose strong new sanctions on North Korea. Both Russia and China voted for the resolution that limits some key exports from the rogue nation including coal, iron, iron ore, lead, lead ore, and seafood. If successfully enforced it could slash North Korea $3 billion export in income by one third.

The resolution also bans countries from engaging in new joint ventures with North Korea, or increasing investments in existing ventures. The major question remaining is will countries like China comply with the resolution they voted for.
