War on Leakers

Aug 7, 2017

Attorney General Sessions announced that he has gone to war against leakers in the federal government. During a Friday press conference, Sessions condemned the leaks in the “strongest terms” and said, “This culture of leaking must stop.” “I have this message for our friends in the intelligence community: The Department of Justice is open for business. And I have this morning a warning for would-be leakers: Don’t do it.” Sessions also announced that the DOJ was reviewing policies affecting media subpoenas. In a three point plan, Sessions said that the Deputy Attorney General and the FBI Director were to oversee all classified leak investigations and monitor every case. U.S. Attorneys will be prioritizing cases involving leaks. And the number of active investigations into leaks has tripled. The FBI has created a new counterintelligence unit to manage the cases.
