Deep State Asserts Its Supremacy

President Trump reportedly told James Comey 'I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go. He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go." James Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee that understood this to be an order from President Trump to end the investigation into the Michael Flynn. Comey said that he met with his “FBI senior leadership” and decided not to comply with the order and not tell anyone at the Department of Justice. There are two possible conclusions to draw from this. Either Mr. Comey is lying about his interpretation of the president’s statement as being an order. He’s using his interpretation to trap the president in an obstruction of justice charge. Or, if Mr. Comey did understand this to be an order, then he’s asserting the unprecedented supremacy of the FBI to decide whether or not to comply with a presidential order or whether or not to inform a Deputy Attorney General. Mr. Comey seems to take on a lot of power and responsibility that is not his to make.
